Ana!hair.

Seriously, you guys, in the time that Ana Marie has been showing up on Rachel's show (which is about 12 days less that Rachel's show has been on), how many jobs has that poor girl had? Radar, Time, Playboy, Air America... Did I get them all?

But, yeah, anyway, I was looking for the date Keith announced Rachel's show (August 19) for a thing that I was thinking about writing, and I somehow ended up watching the first time Ana Marie was on Rachel's show. I'm linking it here because, on Twitter, [info]st_secular mentioned that she liked to pretend Ana Marie cut her hair after meeting Rachel, and, well, she trufax did. I think ten days later was the next time Ana Marie was on, and, look, short hair!

Also, Rachel called her "Ana" in the beginning, apparently, but she has since switched to "Ana Marie."

I have no idea why I just made this post. Here, have Rachel's election football metaphor and forget I said anything.

K-Mart

The lights for my Christmas tree bit it today, so I had to go on a search for more. One of the stops was at K-Mart, where I found these adorable little ornaments that go perfectly with my tree:

They only had two in pink, though, and when I tried to order more on the website, they were out of stock. So, um, if anyone happens to be at K-Mart in the next few days and see any of these, I would gladly reimburse you via whatever method you prefer. (I obviously don't expect to get them before Christmas. That would require magic.) They're on sale for $2 each, and while I could really use four of them, even one or two would be awesome and make me love you forever.

And now I have to watch Ana Marie Cox on TRMS, decorate a tree, and edit a fic. Busy, busy.

(Ugh, I smell like tub cleanser. I think Dad washed the tub while I was out light shopping, and I don't think it was properly rinsed. At least I am clearly very clean?)

TV! Sweet, sweet TV.

Yep, no matter how pre-occupied one gets with university, extra readings and life in general, there can always be room for TV. Of course, I'll probably still watch most of my shows on my laptop (I'm planning on catching up on Big Love, Mad Men and White Collar) but we do have Sky+ so I can also catch up onn Modern Family and even record AC360, thank you very much technology (provided by Murdoch but let's nimbly skip over that little bit.) I can't believe it's so close to Xmas already, how did that happen? Exams distracted me I guess. It's so good to be home, even though they're driving me ever so slightly up the wall. I'm completely broke (the last of my alloted money went to seeing Where the Wild Things Are and Avatar 3D with Nat in all his fanboying glory.) so it's also highly economical. Sadly my plan to work in Tescos for extra January money failed - seriously, you had no vacancies at all? How does an evil corporation stop accepting willing workers?

I hope everybody got their cards and/or presents. My flatmate informed me that a bunch of packages arrived after I left (typical) so thanks to everyone who sent me something too! At least this way you know I'm not opening them before the 25th. Now, for lack of interesting things to discuss, more link vomit!

Bright Star Dimmed: On "Female movies" and being overlook at awards season. Since the Golden Globes were announced, I'm in full movie-buff mode and the lack of a nomination for Abbie Cornish is shocking but not surprising.

Michael Stuhlbarg interview. Seriously, I love this man. He's my favourite performance of the year in my 2nd favourite film of 2009 (just beaten by Up) and since it seems unlikely that he'll get an Oscar nomination (he's got a Globe one though, don't disappoint me HFPA!) I',m just going to pimp him out so everybody can fall in love with him.

Stephen King's 10 Favourite books of the year. He's a thriller man and it shows. Not sure number 2 counts but it was a fantastic book so I'll let it slide.

Friends on the Other Side (The Princess and the Frog): Since I have to wait until freaking February to see the film everyone in America has already seen, I've been making do with the soundtrack. Dr Facillier seems like a damn cool villain, kind of like a voodoo Cab Calloway.

Rachel Maddow mixes a sidecar. Seriously, pundits and alcohol! I love watching cocktails being mixed, it's like a cooking show but with booze!

Back in Norway, and it's even snowing

So, I got back to Norway yesterday, but haven't had the chance to update, because I've been really busy ever since. I will go into detail about my visit later, when I post the pictures from the trip. At the time, my only comment is that I got to go to a chocolate theme park, and spend time with my evil twin, [info]dakfinv , and I don't understand it if the entire world isn't jealous of that. It was awesome! Other than that, I somehow became co-mod of [info]codexfawkes , I think. I'm not quite sure, it's slightly confusing at the time. Anyway, I still really want to pimp it, and now is the perfect time, as there's a challenge going on over there. Fair enough, I was the one who posted it, but that just means I want you to go over and have your way with it even more. Go on, impress me. I know you can. Because you've all been over to Watch The Guild, right? If not, remedy it right now!

Things I have learned about Michael Buble' today:

1. He could be Jensen Ackles's long-lost brother.

2. He makes Glenn giggle like a schoolgirl.

I would include the fact that he got into a fistfight defending Glenn's honor at a hockey game, but I knew that already.

The wheels, they are a-turning...

1667? Try 1888.

So, do you know what I did today? Like, in the past six hours?

I wrote 1,888 words. Yes, that's right. In the time between finishing NaNoWriMo and tonight, I wrote one 100 word drabble (because drabbles are 100 words, damn it) and nothing else. And then, tonight? 1,888 words. That is more than I wrote most nights of NaNoWriMo.

It's of roughly the same quality as the NaNoWriMo words, but that point matters not at all, because I wrote words. Some of them -- the decent ones -- were for [personal profile] notsopeaceful, but only a small number.

I feel vaguely unstoppable.

Requiem

From the Springfield News-Leader:
Three people in the home -- a mother in her 80s and two daughters -- were asleep when the fire began. Scott said the deceased -- one of the daughters -- died from smoke inhalation... The mother was in serious condition at St. John's Hospital.
The other daughter was not reported injured.

The deceased is [info]schadenkatze.

The "other daughter" is [info]schaden_freude.

I've known the two of them since I've been in online fandom, in the time of alt.tv.highlander, well over a decade ago. They lived near my mom, and I'd try to get a visit in with them when I traveled there. I wasn't able to do so for the past couple of years, so my last memory of seeing them was Christmas Eve, 2004. They helped me plan a surprise visit to Mom, spending that night at the airport, waiting for my delayed flight, and driving the 90 minutes to drop me off well after midnight.

Now one is gone and the other is left without her home, her belongings, and most importantly, her twin.

Through the end of the month, I'll be taking a collection for [info]schaden_freude on behalf of The Seacouver Social Club via PayPal. My original plan was to keep this "in the family" of the SSC, but if the spirit moves you to help, please do even if you're not an SSC member.

All of you SSCers, please give this a signal boost!

What a day, what a day.

We went to my longtime friend Caitlin's for dinner--also went there for Thanksgiving--and were directed to bring dessert, so we got and I made peanut butter cookies with Hershey's Kisses in them. I loooove those cookies. Eat them straightaway and the Kiss is all melty...yummers. Anyway! Caitlin loved her gift (a strawberry-theme giftset from Lush), the appetizers and dinner were great, dessert was also excellent, and after that we watched the end of Enchanted on TV. So that was 11pm that went off and I thought 'right, we'll be leaving soon, Mom won't have much more wine, then, and we're both yawning so...'

Nope! Sweet Home Alabama came on next (I think Melanie cocked it up; the chance to marry Patrick Dempsey, have the MAYOR of NYC as your mother in law, and own a fashion design business that seems to be doing well...that sounds better to me, I mean, is being self-successful a bad thing?) and though both Caitlin and I were getting very tired (she'd just flown in from California yesterday and her circadians are out of whack), both our moms just kept going back for more and more of the vino blanco. By last count I believe mine was on 10 glasses. It was not looking pretty as the movie continued on, just getting slurry, repeating a lot, not good at all. A few times I said I'd drive home but she said no.

But something instinctive told me 'no, no, no, don't take that for an answer.' Maybe it was that little spark of human that Time Lords just don't have, haha. So when it was time to go, just after 1, I performed a sleight of hand and snapped up her keys before she could stumble over to them (yep, it was that bad). Booyah! I haven't driven her car in ages, but it wasn't so bad. Just had to scrape ice off the windows. I'm glad I did that, though, it could've not ended well otherwise.

So yeah that was basically my day. I hear the Senate is one step closer to passing the first step of health care reform (let's face it, it's not perfect yet, not with all these gifts given to Landrieu, Nelson, Lieberman, etc), which is good. I also hear Brittany Murphy died really young, which is not at all good. One of her best roles? Drop Dead Gorgeous. That movie must be about 10 years old now but it is hilarious. Allison Janney is in it. Kirstie Alley is in it. Lots of people are in it and the plot is excellent, it's full of quotable lines, put it in your Netflix queue!

LOOK, snowy photos of Bo. How adorable is this dog? Insanely.

Rahm is either discussing topical issues with Ax and Valerie, or brokering a threesome between them all, not sure. Also omg that tie.

I think it's time for a WIP DUMP

Okay, so I have 11 not-a-project WIPs right now. ELEVEN, which, although it is a lucky number to me, is not a good amount of prompts to have that need work.

So, here's a WIP dump of the five that seem to have the most promise… with the added request: Even if you just read the cut text and not the actual stories, can you tell me which one(s?) I should try to tackle first? Please? This is getting out of hand, you guys.

Also, a couple of these are pretty old (hence the Yankees and HCR references in the K/A one, etc.) Sorry about that. And, most of these, I just realized, are Death Bingo prompts, sorry about that, too… heh...

BFF, Yuletide, memes

Went out for coffee with the beef today, approximately forty minutes after waking up. There was a Jeep in the parking lot with an Alan Keyes bumper sticker. I mocked openly.

AO3 is killing me with the three mystery works in the Pundit RPF fandom. (And there are two in M*A*S*H and one in Dead Like Me, too.) Is it Yuletide yet? I want it to be Yuletide. Never mind that I just deleted all of my Yuletide bookmarks from last year, realizing I was never going to get around to reading them.

Are there any good writing memes going around? I mean, not that I don't have stuff I could be working on, but I'm kind of bored with all of it right now.

ETA: Funnyish story in which I cause trouble without even being present. For her birthday, I gave the beef The Complete Manual of Things That Might Kill You. Since she has no schoolwork to do, she took it to work to read on her breaks, and her coworkers all glommed onto it. However, by the end of the night, her boss was all, "You can't bring that here any more. People get funny about stuff like that." I assume this means he is now convinced he has one of the diseases in the book.

'89 ALCS

YOU GUYS. YOU GUYS, I AM WATCHING GAME 2 OF THE 1989 ALCS! I AM WATCHING RICKEY HENDERSON STEAL BASES AND MARK MCGWIRE HIT BALLS AND IT IS ALL HAPPENING IN OAKLAND WITH BOB COSTAS IN THE BROADCASTERS' BOOTH.

I LOVE YOU, MLB NETWORK.

I mean, do you have any idea how awesome this is, seeing the people in the crowd with their hats and shirts and body paint? And hearing the '80s music playing over the stadium's sound system? But Bob Costas will not shut up about the weather at Wrigley Field for the Cubs and Giants game later that night. It's annoying.

Also, the flags are at half staff for the commish who just died, and the umps are wearing ABG on their shirts in his honor.

This guy who is pitching for the A's, Honeycutt? Wow, he cannot throw a strike to save his life. This is just so wonderful, I cannot even tell you.

Tis the season to be a freak perv...

Glenn on Wednesday's show: "Is 'Jesus' the safe word?"

I think somebody's been spending too much time with Keith.

Speaking of Glenn, he's on the Leno show right now. And oh, honey, that tie with that shirt? Not that I'm looking too hard at your upper half.

And I am totally going to make his sugar cookies this Xmas. And maybe his hot chocolate, which is Hershey bars melted in cream. OM NOM NOM.
